Historical Culture Resource

Sangiam Seongsusan Mountain has a form of Gulyongjaengju, which is the shape of Nine dragons fighting for beads. Sangiam where the opening story of Goryeo dynasty and Joseon dynasty are passed down is a branch temple of Sungunsa Temple, the headquarters of the 24th Jogye Order parish. In the colonial age, Lee Seok-yong, the general of resistance used this place as headquarter of the anti-Japanese movement. It was destroyed by the Japanese soldiers and reconstructed once, but destroyed again during the Korean War. The current building was rebuilt in 1958.

Others say that it is actually derived from the Korean word “Geuman” which means to stop; The plant grew over everywhere, so people wanted to stop its distribution.
