The history of Gochang-gun is very unique, compared to other cities in Jeollabuk-do.
In Baekje era, it was called as ‘Moryangburi-hyeon’, and in the 16th year of King Gyeongdeok during the Unified Silla era, it was named Gochang-hyeon. At that time, it was the important hyeon of Muryeong-gun, which is currently Younggwang-gun, Jeonnam. In Goryeo era, it was the important hyeon of Gobu-gun. Wherever it was, it was a central region.
During the Joseon era, it was part of Naju Jingwan, and its status was elevated to a gun, during the reign of King Gojong, and was made part of Jeollanam-do. In 1907, it was made part of Jeollabuk-do again, and in 1914, it joined Mujang and Heungdeok. After 1955, it had its current status of 1 eup 13 myeon.
You are able to seek entertainment in Gochang-gun.
It is adjacent to the west sea, so you can enjoy the wide mud flats.
With the Naejang Mountain national park, Seonwoon mountain provincial park and other various tourism resources,
you are able to seek entertainment in Gochang-gun.
With Gochangeupseong as the center, you can see a lot of tourist destinations such as Gongeum-myeon
which was the center of the Donghak Peasantry revolution, Hakwon Farm which is known for
its green barley field, dolmen collection (Gochang dolmen park) which is one of the cultural heritages of UNESCO,
and also Ungok wetlands.
It has a beautiful and
unpolluted environment.
The entire county is a biosphere reserve, registereed by the UNESCO, and thus it has a beautiful and unpolluted environment.
The Gochang-gun section of Jeonbuk Cheolligil consists of a course that includes Ungok wetlands which was naturally formed after people left due to the building of the reservoir, a trail that goes along the fortress walls of Gochangeupseong.
The wetlands prove the preservation of the ecology, and we can see how nature recovered itself in a place where people used to reside in. You can feel how small and powerless we humans are when seeing such powerful scene of restoration. Gochangeupseong-gil is a rather strenuous path that even has the saying that if you circle the fortress three times, you will live a long and healthy life. So even if you only circle the fortress once, you will feel that you are much healthier than before.
Gochang-gun has diverse resources, and the Jeonbuk Cheolligil Gochang-gun course introduces you to the charms of the city.
Ungok Wetland Ecological Path Course 1
My value in the nature of Taepo
“Ungok Wetland”, where you can feel great nature, was created by reviving all kinds of animals and plants in the place of Dalanginnon in Obeigol, where 10 villages including Yonggye and Ungok migrated. Since then, it has been a valuable proof of nature's resilience and has been recognized as the Ramsar Wetlands.
Ungok Wetland Information Center. Go uphill to the marsh through this uphill road.
After passing the Gochang Dolmen Museum, you will meet the entrance of the Ungok Wetland Information Center. There are always guides at the information desk to hear friendly explanations of the wetlands. Walk uphill next to the information center and walk towards Ungok Wetland.
Looking back from the middle of the ascent, you can see Goindol proud dolmen as a colony. The dolmen colony can be seen at a glance, about half of the total, already admire its size and vastness. Soon the deck runs downhill.
Life fills the marsh
It is a place where Darangnon and home were located. The landscape enters the nature of the beginning. Occasional walls and columns are already assimilated into nature, creating a mysterious atmosphere.
After a short walk, you can observe 'Ecological Pond' and SamtaeDungbung. In spring, you'll usually encounter frog eggs and salamander eggs, and in the summer, you'll encounter yellow chicks. The life gain that fills the marshes is amazing.
Migratory birds living in the wetlands
Along with the tech, you will meet the Ungok Reservoir and the Bird's Eye Observation Deck is located on the most widely seen corner.
When the time is right, you can see the migratory birds that live their lives against the Ungok Reservoir and the Ungok Wetlands.
My value in the beginning of nature
In time, they arrive at the Ungok Wetland Ecological Park, where the Ungok Wetland PR Center, which was originally a field of Ungok-ri, passes through the Bell of Hope. We once again realize the ecological value of nature that we have walked in at the public relations hall.

Ungok Wetland Ecological Road Course 2
In search of the ecological treasures of the wetlands
It is a course that goes around the circumference of the meteoric wetland along the meteoric reservoir.
Ungok Wetland Eco-Trail 2 Course' starts from Ungok Wetland Eco-Parking Park' and turns around the Ungok Wetland along the Ungok Reservoir. Ungok Reservoir and Ungok Wetland are home to 84 species of animals and plants, including endangered otters, larvae, buzzards and natural monuments, red falcons, kestrels and numerous protected species.
Therefore, the road deck along the journey is also narrow. This is because the wetland convenience has been prioritized in a way that minimizes the shade that covers the Ungok Wetlands, not the convenience of those who come here. The steps are cautious because of the borrowing of one of the precious and valuable wetlands. Walk in unison with nature so as not to compromise the resilience of perfect ecology.
Various experiences are available at the Ungok Wetlands.
Passing through the Andeokje, a thorny lotus community, and passing through the Ungokseowon, you will meet the Ungok Wetland Publicity Center, which is a well-equipped ecological park. There are some of the largest dolmens in the East, so you might want to look around.
Soon after, he goes to the Yonggae Village after passing the Bird Watching Observatory and SamtaeDungbung. The section going to the village can meet the ecology of the Ungok Wetlands closest to you, and it is a natural ecological village, so if you have a chance to stay overnight, you can explore the Ungok Wetland deeper.
After taking a breath of long journey at Subyun Shelter', it will be finished at Ungok Wetland Eco-Park'.

Gochangeupseong-gil
Passing around Gochang-eup Fortress
Selected as one of “100 beautiful roads in Korea”
Gochang-eup (History No. 145), also called “shape”, is the starting point of this road. If you want to experience the culture of Honam as well as Gochang, you can visit the cultural and art facilities near Eupseong.
Gochangeupseong-gil, which allows you to see Gochang-eup Castle, which is well preserved close to its original state, was also selected as one of the 100 beautiful roads in Korea. Climbing the grassy field to the left of the main gate leads to a circular walk along the wall.
After passing around Gochangeup-seong
Out of the and Gochang-eupeong and go to the left. A dense forest full of pine needles is attractive. Leading to the valley waterfront, a neat towering gate of Hanok appears. Kim Ki-seo Kang Hak-dang. It is the place where Kim Ki-seo, a scholar of intertwining weird paintings, came down from his secular world and raised his school.
The road turns large and walks through the 'Hwasan Village' to the Nodong Reservoir. The richness and generosity of Gochang is conveyed as it is. Chisukjeong at the entrance of the reservoir has the unique charm of Korean gazebo architecture. We finish today's journey at 'Gochang Golf Practice Range' which we keep walking on.
It is said that if one round of 'Gochangeupseong-gil' is better, the bridge is better.
So you might want to walk two wheels.
