It has such a clean ecological environment.
Muju-gun has the Baekdu Mountain Ridge around it including the famous mountain, Deokyu Mountain. It is the ‘secluded place’; of Jeollabuk-do along with Jinan-gun and Jangsu-gun, but it has such a clean ecological environment.
This region that was divided into Mupung-hyeon and Jugye-hyeon, and was united in 1414, 14th year of Kim Taejong of Joseon. It was then renamed as Muju-hyeon, and in 1895, 32nd year of Kim Gojong, it was named as Muju-gun.
It is located in the borders of 4 cities – Geumsan-gun in Chungcheongnam-do, Yeongdong-gun in Chungcheongbuk-do, Gimcheon-si in Gyeonsangbuk-do, and Geochang-gun in Gyeongsangnam-do. So including Jeollabuk-do, 5 provinces are together here.
They will be too attracted to the place that they do not want to leave.
With deep mountains and clean environment, the quality of snow is very clean here, so Muju-gun is like the mecca for winter sports.
In 1997, it hosted Winter Universiade with Jeonju-si, and annually, a lot of tourists visit Muju Resort.
Many tourists visit Muju for the renowned festival, the firefly festival, the Taekwondo Center which is like a symbol to a global sport,
Taekwondo, Geum River, Gucheondong Valley, Deokyu Mountain and other tourist destinations.
Once tourists visit Muju-gun, they will be too attracted to the place that they do not want to leave.

Try visiting Muju-gun if you want to see the scenery of a blue sky, green mountain and clean river, see the sceneries one by one along the stone wall.
Yehyangcheonli Geum River Masil-gil Course 2
Geum River Masil-gil Course 2 starts from the riverside walkway at the entrance of Jamdu 2 bridge, and leads to Seomyeon Village.
The walkway under the mountain is a priceless road that lets you take a walk while looking at the river and the village across the river.
Along Jamdu 2 bridge and under the stone cliff, you can take a walk at the walkway right next to the river. The width of the road is pretty wide so cars can pass, but it is not paved, so it is great to walk here. This is a region where a lot of ecological activities took place such as the firefly festival, so it has beautiful views together with the Geum River.
Looking at Jamdu Village which means that it looks like the head of a silkworm, you will see that the village and the rural place is peaceful and quiet. The harmony of the silently flowing river and the stone cliff is beautiful.
Old Jamdu Bridge. People still use this bridge.
When you are almost done with walking in the riverside walkway, you cross the road and head to the apple orchard. If you visit the place at the right time, you will see apple tree flowers that bloomed. Inside the white petals, there is a slight tint of pink, and the apple flower has a pleasant fragrance.
After the Bridge, the road continues. If you want to walk along the riverside, you may go nearer. The mountain and the river underneath looks really fresh.
The curvy Geum River is like a belt, so the village is named Yodae (belt) village.
From this village to Seomyeon village, it is such a nice road for trekking.
Yongpo Bridge, it was exploded during the Korean War, but it was renovated and still being used now.
Yongpo Bridge carries on its history. You can cross the bridge anc come back. This was the bridge that linked Geum Mountain and Muju, Chungcheongnam-do and Jeollabuk-do. When there was no bridge, boats were used to cross the river. In that ferry boat, cow-carried carriages and buses were transported as well.
After Yongpo bridge, the trekking course continues. You will be able to see piles of stones where rockslides were used. This section where you can see the fertile land and the mountain is one of the most popular sections along with the walkway at the departure point.
After you crossed the bridge, you head on to Seomyeon Village.
The scenery from the point where the Namdae Stream and Geum River meets look great. The birds who did not seem to get agitated by the loud sound of water soon recognizes the footsteps of strangers and fly away.
After you pass by the provincial boundary signboard, you continue walking to the Seomyeon village. This affluent village will welcome you.
This is a beautiful path in spring
when the flowers bloom.
You can combine Courses
1 and 2 and go trekking
for the entire day.

Yehyangcheonli Geum River Masil-gil Course 1
Doso Village is
a beautiful village
Geum River Masil-gil Course 1 starts from Doso Village at the highest part of the Geum river, and ends at Yulso Village.
Doso Village is a beautiful village that is next to the curvy Geum river , and it is at the starting poing of the river. As you walk the Masil-gil, you will see the big rock at the opposite road, and that rock is the Daemun Rock. In the past, the rock touched the mountain, so the path was very narrow that only one or two persons could pass through.
Byeorut-gil that comes right after is a fantastic course. The sharp cliff and the bizarre-looking rock, and the road where you can walk along the riverside is the most impressive section in Course 1.
Playing with water in the clean river will let you forget all about the hot weather.
What kind of a myth lies behind the Gaksi Rock? The look it has that blends well with the Geum river underneath makes you think that it might have a sad story behind it.
Actually, there are two myths. one is that a daughter-in-law who was constantly nagged at for not having a son went to heaven while she prayed for a son.
The other myth is that a Taoist fairy who was having a bath here lost her clothes, and she turned to stone.
Whichever myth is true, both are sad.
The next part of the course is to pass through the path in the cave.
Then, you will arrive at Yulso Village. The blue sky and the bizarre-looking rocks blend well with the vallue. If you have more energy, try walking toward the Jamdu Village and try hiking in the second course.
This path is nice to walk on a
season with beautiful spring
flowers. There are many people
who enjoy playing in the water
during summer, so this place is
great for a vacation.

These sceneries with its own stories will make you feel like forgetting about the worldly affairs.
Gucheon-dong Valley got its name because the water found in the northern side of Deokyu Mountain made 33 breathtaking sceneries such as Haksodae, Chuwoldam, Susimdae, Sugyeongdae, Gucheon waterfall and others, and also because there are more than 9,000 curves.
The course starts from Gucheon-dong parking lot, and Eosa-gil starts from there. The wide rock is impressive and the 33 sceneries start consecutively from Inwoldam, the 16th scenery.
The sceneries in Guwoldam each has its own story such as the Bipadam where the fairies sang and played musical instruments, and Dayeondae where they made tea while looking at the Okryu flowing in the Bipadam, and Guwoldam where the waters from Woleumryeong and Baekryeonsa joined. These sceneries with its own stories will make you feel like forgetting about the worldly affairs.
Everyone will lose their minds at the scenery
where the autumn leaves flow down the water.
Everywhere you go, it is breathtaking, and you will feel the wonder.
It is unfortunate that you cannot count all 9,000 curves and see all the 33 sceneries.
Actually, the Hangrobong that is the very last scenery can be reached right after passing by the Baekryeonsa, but you can visit it the next time.
The course finishes after seeing the Baekryeonsa, and we will go back from there.
Unlike how we climbed up, we will go down to the other side this time.
The same scenery will look anew.
Every spot has own magnificent
view and wonderful sight.
