Wanju-gun Cheolligil

Wanju-gun is another historically significant place in Jeollabuk-do along with Jeonju-si.

It used to be Jeonju-gun, and part of Jeonju-si, thus it shares the long history and tradition. However, in AD 555, the second year of reign of King Wideok, Wansan Province was made, so the name Wanju has another historical value.

In the Joseon Dynasty, this place used to be the hometown of King Taejo, the main hometown of surname Lee of Jeonju, so the status of the region was elevated to Wansan-Yusubu. During the Japanese colonization period, the region Jeonju-eup was elevated to Jeonju-bu, so Jeonju-gun was renamed to Wanju-gun. Wanju-gun administered 15 myeons.

Wanju-gun has the biggest area among the provinces and guns of Jeollabuk-do. Wanju-gun is the central region of Jeollabuk-do that is adjacent to 8 cities including Jeonju-si, and other guns.

Wanju-gun is another clean region of Jeollabuk-do, and it has a lot of scenic resources.

Among the various stems of the Baekdu Mountain ridge, Wanju-gun is near the stem from Noryeong ridge.
There are various mountains and you will be able to see a lot of traditional, cultural heritages in the villages.

Let’s meet the paths of Wanju-gun where your woes will be gone with the fresh energy of the mountain and the forest.

Wanju-gun section of Jeonbuk Cheolligil has places such as the Wibong Waterfall where Gwon Samdeuk, a pansori master, got his perfect voice, and Hakdong Village that is known for the Gojongsi, the ingredient of dried persimmon. Let’s meet the paths of Wanju-gun where your woes will be gone with the fresh energy of the mountain and the forest.

Gojongsi Masil-gil

Magnificent waterfall and the majesty of the pine trees

Concept Forest and Hill Road
Length 11km
Time 4 hrs
Difficulty Hard
Main Course Webong Falls – Songgotjae - Sihyang Observatory - Dajami Village - Hakdong Village Silver Hall

Webong Falls. This is where Kwon Sam Deuk was famous.

'Gojongsi Masil-Gil starts at 'Weebong Falls'. From the start, the size and location of the waterfalls are overwhelming. If you watch the water falling into the second stage of the 60m high peak, your chest will be cool.

It is famous that Kwon Samdeuk, one of the eight Pansori masters in front of the Webong Falls, sounded almost like a roar, and confronted with sound without retreating.

Mountain range scenery with flowing valleys and folding screens

The statue side with Webong Falls is a region where even high mountains are condensed in Wanju, forming a village in the valley, and the road connecting the village with the village is inconceivable. Therefore, today's journey could be hard enough.

After passing the Webong Falls down the secluded promenade, you will see a three-way street. At this point, you will walk back toward Songgotjae, going back to the Ipseok village. The summit is a long climb over 4 km

Patience is required, but the uphill road with its flowing valleys and landscapes of mountain ranges is beautiful. If you go up the mountain and walk on the road, you should be able to drink Gojongsi Masil Gil in order to breathe fresh air, sweat and revitalize your body.

You can enjoy a fantastic view from back to front and back.

As you walk towards Songgotjae, you will notice the pine trees growing in the middle of the cliff.
It’s shape, rooted and stretched through rocks, is second to none. If you go up to the top while enjoying the forest bathing, you will finally reach Wondeong Mountain's “Sihyang Observatory”. The cool view seems to be compensated for the sweat.

The view from the 713m observation deck is fantastic. In the front, Wanju-gun and Iksan-si are seen, and in the back, the stems of the Noryung mountain range between Baekdudaegan.

In particular, the name 'sihyang' in the 'Sihyang Observatory' means 'persimmon fragrance', and it goes well with frostbite noodles, which is a specialty of persimmon, Gojong.

The paths that passed were like panoramas in front of eyes.

The roads are long downhill from now on. If you go down about 2km, you will see a path to the beautiful ecological forest path to the left, but your footsteps will be urged downhill leading to Dajami Village.

As you go through a village, you finish your journey at Hakdong Village Silver Hall. The gazebo nearby is also beautiful. Rest your legs in the sperm for a while, the roads are vivid like a panorama.
