Iksan-si Cheolligil

Iksan-si that used to be the center
of the sophisticated Baekje culture

Iksan-si that used to be the center of the sophisticated Baekje culture used to be called ‘Som-li’ in Korean. It means that a cloud looks like it is entering a village when seen from far.

After that, during the Japanese colonization era, the place became the center of all transportation as the Honam Line was built in order to forcefully collect the rice from Gimje.

The history of Iksan is supposed to have more priceless values than the current development.

It was where Geonmaguk, the powerful and influential ruling country from
the Mahan Era was, and it prospered during the Baekje times.
These facts were proven as the Mireuksaji and Wanggungri heritages were included
in the Baekje Historic Site which is one of the world heritage sites in UNESCO.

The generosity of Iksan,
beautiful sceneries

Iksan, where there is an impressive and vast plain land, has its special generosity. This is why the story of rich people and their generosity is being told in Hamra-myeon.

The Iksan-si part of Jeonbuk Cheolligil presents the generosity of Iksan, beautiful sceneries and also shows how prosperous the place was in the past.

In Hamra Mountain Doole-gil, you can cross Hamra-jae, following the trails of the three rich families legend, and see the Geum River which is another major rivers of Jeolla-do. In Mireuk Mountain Doole-gil, you can feel how prosperous the city was and also feel the breath of the long history. Woongpogomgaenaru-gil is like a martyr’s road that seeks to find Catholic heritages while seeing the sceneries of Geum River.

A road that gives you peace at heart. If you want to walk on a road where you see the mountains, rivers and hills, you should try visiting Iksan Provice now.

Sambuja House with funny tales.

Hamra Mountain Dulle-gil, which overlooks Mount Hamra which rises exceptionally high from Iksan boasting a fertile plain, begins with Sambuja House.

When you enter the village, the majestic towering gates and legends of Sambuja House greet people with their own history. Sambuja has interesting tales such as story that a man who went to Ungpo and then rested in the village became rich when people suggest him to sell yeast and legend of becoming rich by building a house where the monk helped.

Ddong rock. Literally the place
where the climbers went to the toilet.

Passing through Sambuja House, enters Hamrajae.
The water flowing through the bamboos creates small waterfalls and puddles, and the cute stone tower of the crossroads that meets for the first time contains the winds of the seahorses who wished for safety.
After a bit of sweat following the signs of the wild tea plantation, you will reach the summit, and you will begin to pass down the Chulreong bridge.

When people take a break to watch the Geumgang or see the Ddong rock that has literally resolved the toilet, they laugh and leave behind. If you walk carefully under your feet, you'll be comfortable again.

Wild tea trees grow by themselves in nature

Afterwards, you can see the wild tea plantation that grows large in nature, and you can directly see the northern limit of the tea tree. It comes down to Hamra Mountain with soft air.

Soon after passing the Gatjum village, you will reach the entrance to Ipjum-ri tomb. You can feel the dignity of the Baekje civilization once seen by seeing Geumdong Gwanmo, Geumdong Shoes and Baekje era's tombs found nearby.

The sun sets over the Gomgae Ferry. Even magnificent.

Pass the farm road past the old bridge and driveway. Finally, the sparkling Geumgang is filled with both eyes. The downstream of the Geumgang is as wide as the sea. Consider the past of Ungpo Tourist Gomgae Ferry who walked along the road along the Geumgang and carried rice to Mapo, Seoul, at the end of the journey.

If time permits, take a look at the Huangpu Sailboats, take a cruise ship, and take a moment in the expansive bosom of the Geumgang. If the time is right, you can also enjoy the fantastic sunsets that descend into the lower part of the Geumgang, so you can see the origin of the Silk River, another name for the Geumgang.

Various stories along the Gumgang

Concept Riverside Road
Length 21km
Time 8 hrs
Difficulty Hard
Main Course Woongpo Tourist Gomgae Ferry Parking Lot - Woongpo Experience Village - Bungsae Hill Village – Seongdang Pogu - Yongan Wetland Ecological Park – Nabawi Shrine Paking Lot

Walk along the Geumgang Towns

Ungpo Gomgae Ferry Road is headed upstream of the Geumgang from Gomgae Ferry Road, a tourist site of Woongpo. The schedule begins with the deportation of Deokyangjeong and zelkova. The first 9km walks down all the troubles and makes friends along the wide surface of the Kumgangang, which seems to have stopped calm and endless silver grass.

The Woongpo Experience Village, where you walk along the Geumgang Bicycle Path, is called the SandalGang ungpo Village. There are many things to see and enjoy in the landscape and various experiences. There is also a Bungsae hill village. A fun legend tells you that there is a bird in the village of an imaginary fish and a rock that resembles a swan.

The old glory has been stopped for a long time, but the beauty of Geumgang is the same.

Subsequently, there was a Seongdang-Chang that managed foods from the Goryeo period to the late Joseon Dynasty. A famous Huangpu sailboat would carry the foods to Mapo in Seoul. Cross the wooden bridge to reach the Yongan Wetland Ecological Park.

The colorful pinwheels urge travelers to step in. After walking close to the Geumgang, you will reach the bank and exit the Nabawi Shrine.

Father Kim Daegeon first announced Catholicism in Korea with Bishop Pereol and Father Davlu in 1845. At Nabawi Shrine, you will be able to fully compensate for your tired body and mind as you look around the beautiful combination of Korean and Western styles.

You can take the Ungpo Tourist Spot Gomgae Ferry at the starting point and catch the Hamrasan Dulle-Gil followed by a two-day trekking course.

  • Recommendation

    Make full use of Woongpo
    Camping site at the departing
point. You can alter the tour into a
2 days 1 night trekking course by
    merging it with the Hamra
    Mountain Doole-gil course.
